Sustainability at Dudes & Barbies
We are not perfect, but we try. To sort, save, repair, reuse and, above all, think! For us, sustainability is an approach rather than a rule. We use leftovers that would otherwise end up in the bin, water plants with rainwater, use smart lighting and make recycling easy. These initiatives, created under the auspices of Kofola and their 'Neleníme zeleníme' project, make sense to us, to the venue and to the world we love.
Recycling Bins
At Vnitroblock, just as across all of Dudes & Barbies, we believe in diversity. That is why the only thing we pigeonhole around here is waste. You will find recycling bins throughout our venues that not only look the part but, more importantly, help reduce the amount of waste heading to landfills.
We believe that when recycling is made simpler and a bit cooler, more people will get on board. Whether you are a guest or a member of our team, we are all playing for the same side: Team Sustainability.
Earthworm Breeding Station
At Vnitroblock, we believe that even the smallest creatures can make the biggest differences. That is why we have decided to host our very own army of earthworms—composting heroes who quietly but effectively transform kitchen scraps into nutrients for our plants. Instead of banana peels or coffee grounds ending up in the trash, we put them right back into the cycle. It is our small but crucial step toward circular thinking. These worms are not just eco-friendly helpers; they are a quiet reminder that every big change starts from the ground up.
Tierra Verde Products
We have fallen in love with Tierra Verde’s natural cleaning products. These products are gentle not only on the planet but also on our venues, hands, and noses. No harsh chemicals, just the scent of a meadow packed with the power of the wild. They are ideal for spaces like ours where there is always something going on, and where we want everything spotless without compromising health or nature. Thanks to Tierra Verde, we are one step closer to being more considerate, eco-friendly, and sustainable.
Víc vody rostlinám, míň vody do kanálu.
Olla Pots
Olla pots—a solution thousands of years old. These clay vessels, which we have buried next to the plants at Vnitroblock, release moisture slowly and directly to the roots. This prevents water from evaporating or pooling on the surface, ensuring the plants get exactly as much hydration as they need. Olla pots are ingeniously simple, yet they save both water and effort. We just refill them once every few days, and that's it. More water for the plants, less water down the drain.
Paper Towel Holders
Paper towels are not the enemy. However, in a venue that serves up to 1,500 guests a day, they quickly become another topic we need to address. Sometimes it seems guests approach paper towels with the motto "the more towels, the cleaner the conscience." But the exact opposite is true.
Wasting paper towels is a shame for both the trees and the wallet. That is why we have introduced holders with educational labels at Vnitroblock. Anyone reaching for a towel can see just how much water goes into everyday consumption. We don't want to nag; we just want to remind everyone that one towel is often enough—and our planet will thank you.
Hero Waste Recipes
Leftovers in the kitchen? For us, they end up as a design garnish for drinks or an ingredient in our desserts. We use citrus peels to make homemade lemonades or to decorate our drinks. The squeezed pulp is then processed into pastry products, and bread crusts are turned into our own breadcrumbs. Thanks to the ideas of our bartenders, chefs, and pastry chefs, we give leftovers a second life. With a clear conscience, we don't pretend to be zero waste; instead, we coin the term "hero waste." Simply because we rescue everything that can possibly be saved. Every drink or cake can be a bit hero waste—you just have to face the leftovers like a true hero.
Water Aerators
Small change, big impact. These space-saving aerators mix water with air, reducing the flow rate. In Vnitroblock, we move them to where the most washing happens to maximize their effect. Water consumption goes down, comfort stays the same. And best of all—saving water also means saving money and the energy needed to heat it. A small detail with a big impact. As the saying goes, every little drop counts.
Bean Bags
What happens to umbrellas that have served their time? We give them a second life, too. At Radlická kulturní sportovna, in collaboration with Kofola, we turned them into stylish bean bags that not only look great but can easily support a demanding visitor and their heavy ecological conscience. This initiative gives a second chance to things that would otherwise end up in a landfill. It might have a bit of a punk vibe, but that fits us perfectly. Out of something worn-out came a product that is comfortable, functional, and has a story—just like Radlická itself.
Souped-Up Ice Maker
An ice maker whose wastewater doesn't end up in the drain, but in the toilet flush tanks. Yes, you read that right. At the Radlická bar, where ice is always in high demand, we tweaked a standard ice maker. Clean, potable water circulates inside it, and it would be a shame to just let it wash down the drain. Flushing with ice maker water is our small step toward circularity and conservation. It works, it makes sense, and it's a pretty cool story to boot.
Rainwater Harvesting
When it rains, we water. At Radlická, we have a rainwater collection system that we use to water the plants. It's the standard practice you know from your cottages or DIY shows—there's no need to draw drinking water from the tap when nature sends it to us for free. To us, buying water to water plants makes about as much sense as paying for air. So, we consider ourselves ecological "bandits," taking what falls from the sky and giving it right back to nature. The plants love it, and so do we, because every saved drop counts. In this case, however, every little drop is not enough—it actually needs to rain.
Wooden Coaster Production
When you’ve got skilled hands and some extra wood, you get things with a soul. Václav, our CEO, balances constant people-time by escaping to his home workshop for some peace, the smell of sawdust, and a love for tough materials. Using leftover scraps of unused wood, he single-handedly crafted coffee coasters and wooden menu holders for us. No showroom design here—just honest, handmade work with a story. Every piece is an original, made with a love for wood and a clear distaste for throwing things away. These are exactly the kinds of things we want more of around us: real, imperfect, and made by hands, not an Excel spreadsheet.
Secondhand Furniture
New furniture is nice, but we like to look back—to our country cottages, your attics, or flea markets. We found the magic in things that have already been through something. Tables that once hosted holiday lunches, chairs where people argued and laughed, and lamps that shone back in the days when letters were still written by hand. Both in Vnitroblock and Kavárna co hledá jméno, you’ll run into pieces that were rescued and restored. We don't have a showroom; we have stories. Every piece of furniture here brings something extra—personality. And that’s exactly what makes the whole space breathe authenticity, rather than some unified, catalog "meh."
Concrete Ring Seating
At Radlická, people sit on anything that has a solid base. Even on a concrete well ring. Sure, it sounds like a joke, but that's exactly the beauty of it. We took a concrete ring, added some cushions and a bit of wit, and turned it into one of our most popular seating spots. It’s not a high-design statement or urban jewelry. It’s raw. It’s honest. It’s ours. This concrete ring has a soul because it doesn't pretend to be anything else. It's just there, proving that even construction waste can be the foundation of something that brings people together.
The Colorful Shipping Container
What do you do with an eyesore of a container? You throw some paint on it. Not because it's a whim, but because even a shipping container can be more than just a big gray blob. At Radlická, we decided to give it a new purpose and transform it into a visual manifesto of what we believe in. What was supposed to be hidden away is now impossible to miss. The street art on its walls isn't just decoration. It’s layers of stories, moods, and attitudes that change depending on who shows up with a brush or a spray can. We don't believe art belongs only in galleries. It belongs everywhere life happens.
Energy-Saving Bulbs
Sure, it’s not exactly a sexy topic. But energy-saving bulbs are the cornerstone of any effort toward energy efficiency. They shine just as bright, consume less energy, and we don't have to change them every five minutes. They don't shine for effect; they shine to save. To be completely honest, a world where you save both energy and your nerves is much more fun than one where every old fluorescent tube buzzes and the electricity bill burns like the midday sun. Sustainability is sometimes subtle—even when it's shining right in your eyes.
Sustainability-Themed Events
For us, sustainability doesn't stop at upcycled furniture or sorting trash. It’s a mindset that we take beyond our daily operations—into community events, experience sharing, and creating a space for those who create with the planet in mind. That’s why we host events like GreenHack, collaborate with Lavrs Market on their sustainable activities, and give a platform to local creators, brands, and initiatives that make sense. Whether it’s pop-up stalls, exhibitions, or talks, we support those who do things thoughtfully and with respect for the planet, aiming to show that green thinking can be both fun and inspiring. All of this in a green space, with a homemade lemonade in hand.
